Life is unpredictable, it’s filled with the good, the bad, and the ugly, I guess life lessons in a nutshell! In this current season of life, I’ve grappled with thoughts of where I want to be versus where I am at. This has directed me to a place of reflection, and inventory, with a dash of stress. So it was clear that I needed to refresh my body, mind, and soul, because ya girl loves sanity.
I concluded that to get to where I want to be I have to be in a place of appreciating what I have, while simultaneously focusing on making small, intentional changes. Let me take you through my life refresh for the month of July.
My life refresh has consisted of slowing down, romanticizing my life, trying new things, and my usual solo outings.
At home, I started with changing my physical space, and decorated my patio. I created a place where I can sit in the mornings or afternoons, drink coffee or tea, read a book and take in the breeze. This has allowed me to slow down, and be in the moment.
Rocks: Home Depot. Rug: Cost Plus World Market. Lantern, Table, Faux Plants: Target. Chairs: Ikea. Vase: Ross
A few times a week, after work, or on a weekend morning I have coffee or tea at the apartment jacuzzi, and take a dip in the pool. I have been soaking up the sun and enjoying amenities that allow me to effortlessly relax, and feel fancy. Water is calming for me, and being around it resets my mind and brings me clarity.
Swimwear: Matte Collection. Sunglasses: H&M
For my body refresh, I started taking a hip hop dance class at a dance studio called “After Hours.” I’m not amazing just yet, but it is nice to move my body in a fun, freeing way. I love to dance, but I’ve never done choreography so this is a challenge for me. It has been a practice of letting go, allowing myself to be, and learning something new with the understanding that I don’t know exactly what I am doing. So far classes have been fun, the instructor is encouraging, and yeah I messed up a few combos, but hey I will try again next week!
Still dating myself! I know y’all I guess I really do love me! Coffee dates, tea dates, food dates, all the solo dates. I spend so much time alone. The benefit is that it is easier to hear myself think, recognize what is working in my life, what needs to go, and what I desire to add to it. One thing at a time of course!
Dress: H&M. Bag: Fashion Nova. Earrings: Shein. Lipgloss: Dior.
Being in a season of isolation seems to be the ultimate mind and soul refresh, because there is nothing but time to think and reflect, and get to know and enjoy yourself on a deeper level. Also you have no distractions, which means no excuses, so you have to start making moves!
As you see, I still have some moments where I complain, because I’m only human, but I don’t remain in that mindset. I have been focusing more on what I have control over, you know thoughts, behaviors and such, and I’ll let God handle the rest. So refresh, reset, and refocus because friends change is coming but we need clarity to get there!
Love your curly haired friend!
