Happy July 1st! Last month I did a thing! On Juneteenth I was the Emcee for a dance show! My friend Jenny B. Director and Creator of the Sassy Strides Dance Team hosted a show with dance acts ranging from heels, hip hop, contemporary, tap, contortion, and burlesque under ARYZE Productions (@aryze.productions).
When she originally asked me to do this, I did in fact hesitantly say, “sure, yeah, for you I’ll do it!” Once I agreed I knew I was locked in, no running away from this. The first thought that I said aloud was, “are you sure, I have never done this before,” and with a smile she said “you’ll be great!” Inside my lovely brain I thought, I have to stand there and speak, I have to have high energy so the crowd is not bored, and I have to announce things correctly on a mic for all to hear, what if I make a mistake!? Inside I was the shocked emoji with the eyes wide open 😳, yup this little guy right here!
On a regular basis I have conversations with myself, it is how I process and understand what I am thinking. So of course with this opportunity I had a lovely conversation with myself, and said firstly if God didn’t think I could do this, this wouldn’t have been placed on my path. Secondly, I literally have to be myself. I enjoy cheering people on, hyping up their talents, and sharing a space with creatives. Plus a bunch of my friends were dancing in the show!
I am proud of myself because I did it! I know I pronounced some things wrong, but I spoke confidently so maybe the people didn’t pick up on it! Honestly, if they did oh well! I did it! And I look forward to trying more new things!
